All Saints Margaret Street

All Saints Foundation

Regisfloral ceiling decorationtered Charity No. 273390

At Margaret Street we are blessed with a beautiful Grade 1 listed building which is a  magnificent example of Victorian church architecture.

When William Butterfield built All Saints in the 1850s, the monies required were provided by some very generous private donors. Then, as now, there was no funding by the State.

Today, we continue to rely on the generosity of private donors to maintain the fabric of this cherished piece of Britain's heritage.

In 1977, the All Saints Foundation was founded to raise money to maintain, renovate and restore the building.

All Saints is not just a great building, it is a living and working church.
It stands open every day to serve not only its congregation but the thousands of people who come to this part of London daily. Our forebears have given us this wonderful place. It is now our responsibility to care for it and continue the mission they began.

Please consider supporting the All Saints Foundation generously. A donation or legacy will help us to preserve our church in memory of those who have gone before us and for the use of future generations.

Our achievements

Since 1977, we have succeeded in raising over £1.5 million and have funded:

  • Consolidation of the vaulted ceiling of the Chancel, conservation of the paintings on the sanctuary walls & restoration of the reredos of the Lady Altar
  • Uncovering the original decoration of the Baptistery; earlier repairs to the organ and a large donation to the Organ Restoration of 2005.
  • Renovations to the fabric of the church and the ancillary buildings which provide facilities for the life and mission of All Saints
  • Renewal of the roof of the church, a major project completed in 1997, towards which the Foundation made a considerable contribution.
  • Rewiring and lighting; conservation of the stained glass
  • Partial renewal of the floor tiling of the church
  • Removal of overpainting and restoration of the interiof of the Nave and Chancel.

  • Renewing the forty year old boilers that heat the church to improve heating and energy efficiency
  • Repair of the decorative floor tiles at the entrance to the church from the vicarage
  • Repair of the wall tiles folowing the introduction of new wiring and lighting into the church
  • Repair of the main church doors to reduce draughts
  • Provision of well designed new noticeboards to help communicate the mission activities of the church.

How you can help

church exteriorWe are not eligible for any Government grants towards the interior renewal, except for the proposed grant in lieu of a reduction in the rate of VAT. The Foundation relies on the generosity of the congregation and friends of All Saints. It is that same generosity which has enabled All Saints to be what it has been over the past 150 years and remains today.

Single payments

Cash gifts can be a single payment or a series of payments for a limited or indefinite period. It may be convenient to set up a standing order form for a series of gifts.

If you are a UK taxpayer you can increase the value of your gift or series of gifts by signing a Gift Aid declaration. With basic rate income tax at 20% this increases the value of your gift by 25%. Higher-rate taxpayers will also get a reduction in their personal tax bill.

Gifts of shares

Gifts of shares have their own tax advantages: no capital gains tax is payable on any unrealised gain and the donor receives income tax relief on the full value of the shares.

Legacies

You may like to consider leaving a legacy to the Foundation in your will. Legacies to charities are deducted from the amount on which inheritance tax is payable.
